Abstract. The research carried out on the topic: “Artificial intelligence and its application in the preparation for the National External Assessment in the 7th grade to compose a detailed free-form answer” aims to support the work of teachers and students in junior high school. It examines the current topic of artificial intelligence as an opportunity to improve national external assessment results in one of its problem areas. Within the framework of the study, specific steps to help students and evaluation criteria based on the most frequent mistakes made by them were identified. The students participating in the study evaluate their responses and the responses given by ChatGPT on a specific quotation from the work of Ivan Vazov. Based on the comparison, the students bring out and understand the problems and difficulties they have. Through the innovative approach, their research inquiry and critical thinking is stimulated.
