Abstract: Evolutional genealogical approach is especially necessary when it comes to phenomena that are virtually constant, yet undergoing endless metamorphoses in the process of social development. Such a phenomenon – driving force in social, cultural and educational development of mankind is private enterprise. I examine it as the more general and prototype phenomenon of private education and schools since the private enterprise principle is to be found in economy, culture, sports, family, etc. By focusing on the heart of
the phenomenon one could outline its more signifi cant factors, functions and manifestations.
Keywords: private enterprise, educational realities, transformations, Bulgarian specifi c features, European strategy, Bulgarian private schools, synchronism between state and private.

Abstract: Similarly to other European countries, in Bulgaria scholars can identify a developmental stage of emerging adulthood. The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) The criteria and conceptions that
adolescents (young people attending college) and emerging adults (young people attending university), in Bulgaria have for adulthood; (2) Whether differences in adulthood criteria, achievement of those criteria, and identity development are related to variations in adult status (i.e., perceptions of being an adult coupled with taking on adult responsibilities), and (3) Age and gender differences in conceptions of adulthood. Participants included 208 Bulgarian young people (134 women, 74 men) aged 16-30 attending a colleague or university in Sofia. Results found that (1) the majority of Bulgarian young people did not consider themselves to be adults; and
(2) issues related to norm compliance, chronological transitions and interdependence ranked as the most important criteria for adulthood. The results suggest that the current generation of young people in Bulgarian
society conceptualizes the transition to adulthood in collectivistic terms.
