THE WORDS, THE SENTENCES AND THE TEXT AS LINGUISTIC SIGNS (OVER A MATERIAL OF MODERN BULGARIAN LANGUAGE)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The aim of the article is to bring to mind the model of the communication of R. Jackobson and to examine if the basic linguistic units fit to this model. We consider that the basic linguistic units are the words, the sentences and the texts.<\/p>\n

After F. de Saussure we accept that the signs have two aspects: significant (name) and signifi\u00e9 (meaning). It is proved that the two aspects of the sign exists in the three types of linguistic units. It is proved also that the signifi\u00e9 contains not only a semantic information, but also it contains a structural information.<\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The text discusses the two main trends for the ethno genesis of the Armenian people \u2013 the theory of indigenous origin, or at least the very ancient presence of the Armenians on the territory of the Armenian Plateau and the theory of their migration. The second theory \u2013 supported by information from various written sources – considers the Armenians as emigrants from the Balkans.<\/p>\n

The article also examines a number of lexical influences on the Armenian language \u2013 from the layer of its own Armenian root words, whose foundations can be recovered or traced back to the Indo-European language spoken thousands of years ago by the ancestors of all Indo-European peoples, to present days.<\/p>\n

THE SCANDINAVIAN NORTH AND EUROPE \u2013 CENTENNIAL INTERACTION (8TH \u2013 21ST CENTURY)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The Scandinavian North is first presented as an important and wide space in Europe, comprising five independent countries and self-governing territories belonging to Denmark and Finland. The lecture makes extensive use of the concept of Norden, which has already gained wide popularity, including in Bulgaria, as a way of designating this part of the European continent not just in a geographic sense but, equally, as a signifier denoting the historical and civilizational links between Nordic nations. It emphasizes the complex Nordic identity, which European identity amplifies and lends a specific character to. The reasons for this tremendous interest are explored in detail \u2013 weaving them to an extent into a mythological narrative \u2013 with the Norden depicted as a corner in the periphery of Europe that has always been actively involved in the historical events that have gone into shaping present-day Europe. A somewhat obscure yet interesting fact is that in 1730 a Nordic scientist, the Carolean Philip Johan von Strahlenberg, suggested the Ural mountain range as the border separating Europe and Asia \u2013 a proposition that continues to stand firmly today. However, the lecture explores other important contributions of the Norden to the development of Europe, such as the application of concepts, such as democracy, consensus and egalitarianism in daily, social and political practices, which goes back to the turbulent Viking era (850 \u2013 1060) that brought dynamic changes to most parts of the European continent, broadened the communication paths linking its various parts and engendered an intrinsic and valuable culture resting on a firm foundation of a multitude of European achievements and emulation models. The reasons why Nordic countries consistently come on top in some of the most renowned global rankings for quality of life, innovation, education, healthcare, low levels of corruption, and even happiness are explored. The strongly pronounced attitude of tolerance and aptitude for cooperation, seeking national consensus on the essential issues of social development in all countries in the area, the high value of their reputation and authority in the global arena \u2013 jointly and individually \u2013 resulting from the consistently pursued policy and ideology of the so-called \u2018Middle Way\u2019, of building and nurturing a welfare State, which has proven its capacity to drive economic and cultural progress without remaining static over time but continuing to develop and adapt to contemporary needs and demands, are strongly emphasized.<\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The article deals with the texts of Russian commercial advertising slogans that express association with the concept of \u201cRUSSIA\u201d by including ethno-specific components of verbal nature. In texts of the slogans, signs of Russian identity that mark the cultural space of Russia are revealed, representing the advertising stimulus for the recipient. Such verbal ways of expressing Russian national and cultural identity as ethno-specific trademarks are analyzed, as well as ethnonyms and ethnotoponyms, descriptive nominations and paraphrases, toponyms, precedent statements and words denoting national and cultural values and stereotypes, rhyme in slogans, and other techniques of ethno-specific advertising. The semiotic analysis that has been carried out in the article is relevant for studying characteristics of the language of modern Russian advertising. The study of slogans, including Russian ethno-specific components, allows us to draw conclusions about the set of auto-stereotyped ideas of Russians about their country.<\/p>\n

Abstract<\/strong>. Interest in learning foreign languages in Bulgaria in the 1930s is a direct consequence of the cultural and educational progress and the advancement of modern language teaching across Europe. Publications on the principles and methods of foreign language teaching from that period highlight moot points and contradictions in different approaches to foreign language teaching in the European as well as the Bulgarian educational context. Such papers outline the historical development of FLT in Bulgaria and make up an essential part of our educational heritage since they reflect major trends in the nation\u2019s cultural development in the early 20th century.<\/p>\n
